ALMA J. PENN GORDON

Alma J. Penn was born Sept. 15, 1872, and departed from this life on the morning of Dec. 10, 1920, at the age of 48 years, 2 months and 25 days. She was married to M. C. Gordon March 25, 1890, and to this union two children were born, Clarence and Dolly Marie McClintic.

At the age of 25 years she united with the United Brethren church at Jefferson township, and remained a faithful member of the church until her death, and the scriptures have said, “Be thou faithful until death, and I will give thee a crown of life.” God grant it to her, because she was faithful to Him.

Everything possible was done to save life for her, but tender hands and surgeon's skill could not avail, and she was called to leave these whose names follow to mourn her death: her husband, M. C. Gordon; two children; one grandchild; her mother, Mrs. Martha Penn of Dexter; five sisters, Ida Rhodes of Udel, Minnie Taylor of Winterset, May Dunmire of Dexter, Emma Larnard of Macksburg, and Mary Johnson of Dexter; six brothers, Frank J. of Winterset, Thomas and Edward of Guthrie Center, and Elmer, Elza and Ellsworth of Dexter. In their hearts and in this home there is a vacant place that can never be filled.

The funeral was held from the Winterset Church of Christ Sunday forenoon, Dec. 12, Dr. N. C. Carpenter, pastor, delivering the sermon. The remains were placed to rest in the Winterset cemetery.
