GERALD MARTIN Accidentally Shot

Gerald Martin, aged about 16 years, was shot and instantly killed about noon Sunday. The distressing accident took place in the timber south of Macksburg, where a company of five boys had gone to hunt squirrels.

The sheriff and acting coroner, W. W. Cassiday, were called Sunday afternoon but on hearing the account of the affair decided that an inquest was unnecessary.

From the account given by the boy's companions, it seems that they were after a squirrel which Holton had shot at in the tree. When he attempted to throw another shell into the magazine of a repeating shot gun it discharged, the entire charge striking Gerald in the left breast, causing instant death.

The boy was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Eli Martin of Macksburg.
