A. P. “Phil” Davitt, 84, of Norwalk died of a heart ailment Saturday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Cumming. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Cumming.

Mr. Davitt was born in Warren County and had lived in Warren and Madison counties all of his life. He had been a farmer and was retired. He had been a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church in Cumming.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; two sons, Phil of Indianola and Robert of Norwalk; five daughters, Mary Steinhauser of Parnell, Mo., Joann Deatsch of Streator, Ill., Dorothy Thomas of Morton, Ill., Jane McCurnin of Norwalk and Helen Ripperger of Indianola; a brother, Aaron of Des Moines; three sisters, Elizabeth Watts of Norwalk, Catherine Isaacs of West Des Moines and Margaret Bickhaus of Quincy, Ill.; 31 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at St. John’s Hall in Cumming, where a rosary will be recited at 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association. Gallaway-McLaren Funeral Home in Norwalk is handling the arrangements.
