MRS. ELLEN D. GEORGE

Mrs. Ellen D. George, daughter of Benjamin and Eunice Chapel Kipp, was born near Rome, N.Y., March 17, 1833 and died June 13, 1920, aged 87 years, 2 months and 17 days.

When she was 8 years of age the family moved to Galenburg, Ill., and the next year to Berwick, Ill., where in 1849, she became the wife of the late Wm. F. George, removing to Winterset in 1874. To them were born eight children, three of whom: Mrs. M. E. Rightmire of Wichita, Kans.; W.W. George and Mrs. Clara E. Sawhill of Winterset, are still living. She also had the care of seven stepchildren, two of whom are still living; Mrs. M. E. Cross of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Kate Bruett of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Hers was a busy life and one of self-sacrifice for others. At the age of 12 years, she became a member of the Methodist church at Berwick, Ill., and afterwards of the Methodist church at Middle River, Iowa. For 75 years she was a loyal member of that denomination. She was not afraid of the dark valley, for into her heart and life, the divine light had come.
