Fernanda Martens, DeSoto

Services for Mrs. Fernanda Martens, 81, DeSoto, who died May 1 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital, were held May 4 at the Trinity Lutheran Church south of Van Meter. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Born south of DeSoto on May 8, 1903, she was the daughter of Brachter and Emma Kading Lienemann. She lived in the DeSoto area all her life and was married to Fred B. Martens at the Trinity Lutheran Church on April 18, 1923. Mrs. Martens was a charter member of the church and a member of the ladies aid.

She and her husband lived on a farm south of DeSoto until 1963 when they moved to DeSoto.

Survivors include her husband; a son Fred R. Martens of rural Winterset; daughters, Dolores Harvey of Mukwonago, Wis., and Gloria Kraushaar of Ft. Dodge; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, sister and three grandchildren.
