WINTERSET, IA.—Bernard A. Smalley, 75 of 621 E. Douglas Ave. in Des Moines, formerly of Winterset, died Saturday of a heart attack at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Collins Funeral Home here. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery.

He worked as a custodian at the state Capitol for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian; three sisters, Mildred Voitel and Kathryn Hudsol, both of Des Moines, and Doris Alleman of Grass Valley, Calif.; and 13 grandchildren.

Friends may call from noon until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bernard Alvin Smalley, Des Moines

Services for Bernard Alvin Smalley, 65, Des Moines, who died Sept. 21 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital, were held Tuesday, Sept. 24 at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Woodrow Choate officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

Born at Des Moines April 25, 1920, he was the son of Arthur and Dollie McConkey Smalley. He was a retired custodian at the State Capitol Building and lived all his life in Madison County except for the past 15 years.

In 1959, he was married to Lillian Bullock in Des Moines. The couple was later divorced.

Survivors include sisters, Mildred Voitel of Des Moines, Kathryn Hudsol of Des Moines, and Doris Alleman of Grass Valley, Calif.; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
