Obituaries

Dyle Leggett

Dyle Leggett was born November 23, 1918, the child of Charles Leroy Leggett and Margaret Isabelle (Clark) Leggett.

He passed away on Thursday, June 28, 1984 at 65 years of age.

He graduated from the St. Charles High School in 1937 and for awhile worked both in Missouri and in Nevada, Iowa. However, he farmed his own place, which had been his parents before him, since 1960.

He suffered a severe stroke in his late 40s or early 50s which left him with severe difficulties with both his physical and speaking ability. This encounter with early difficulty has left more than one individual wondering about the value of life, and there were times when he was able to cope with life and all who knew him were aware of that. However, he was perhaps most remarkable in his love and care for his widowed mother, who passed away not so very long ago, October 23, 1983. One brother, Dale Dwayne, died in infancy. To say that he loved children, animals, and his fellow man—often times is an exaggerated claim—but in this instance it stands on its own merit. He was the joy of his nieces and nephews and a source of lots of fun and practical jokes to those whom he knew well.

Dyle was a person involved in the community, sometimes in an unobtrusive way, but was always ready to help out, even the stranger in need. He was without question a “character” in the best sense of that word. He was an individualist with a host of friends and neighbors.

He is survived by two brothers, Royce and wife, Grace of Colesburg and Robert and wife, Rozzella of Alden; seven nieces and nephews and nine great nieces and nephews.

His constant companion was also buried on the family farm.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 2 at the St. Charles Parish Church in St. Charles at 1 p.m. burial was in the St. Charles Cemetery. Rev. Chet Waterman of St. Charles officiated.
