Ethel K. Betts Smith, daughter of James W. Betts of Cambridge, Iowa, was born near Russell, Kansas, April 19, 1881, and passed away at her home near Van Meter, May 29, 1920, at the age of 39 years, 1 month and 10 days, after an illness of many months of suffering, which was borne bravely and uncomplainingly. Although all was done that loving hands and medical skill could do, she left us to go home to her Maker, who doeth things well.

She was united in marriage to Sankey J. Smith, March 19, 1902, by Rev. Elliott of Des Moines. To their union were born three children: Virgil, Russell and Helen.
There are left to mourn her death, the husband, two sons and a daughter, who are at home; and her father, J. W. Betts of Cambridge; also five brothers and two sisters; Albert H.Betts of Grimes, J. T. Betts of Cambridge, Walter W. Betts of Valley Junction, Winnie E. Thornton of Ankeny, Adelbert M. Betts of Carroll, Iowa; Charles E. Betts of Tacoma, Wash.; Ida M. Hurd of Redonda, Wash., and many other relatives and a host of friends to mourn her death.
