John Hogan

John Hogan, son of Mary and Michael Hogan, was born February 25, 1864 at Bankston, Iowa, and died April 5, 1953, in his home in Corning, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 10 days. He came to Adams county at the age of six and lived in Mercer township all of his life. He moved to Corning in 1941.

He married Mary Morris of Bevington, Iowa January 18, 1897. Six children were born to this union-one died in infancy and Aloysious passed away March 27, 1938. The other children are Albert Hogan of Corning; Marie Flanagan of Omaha; Helen Gilmore of Riverside, Calif.; and Clotilda Curry of Red Oak. Also 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; one brother, Tom, of Corning; three sisters, Sister Clotilda of Ottumwa, Marge Woodmansee of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Kate Sisson of Great Falls, Mont., survive him. His wife preceded him in death, December 7, 1944.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 8, 1953 at 10 a.m. in the St. Patrick's Catholic church in Corning. His nephew, Rev. Paul Hogan, said Requiem High Mass. Interment was in Calvary cemetery.

Pall bearers were Donald Hogan, Vince Hogan, Art Schweers, Jack Curry, Hugh Hogan and Donald Lovely.

Friends and relatives from out of town attending were: Sister Mary Clotilda, and Sister Mary Muriel of Ottumwa; Father Paul Hogan of Detroit; Father J. L. Mackin, Red Oak; Father Francis Doyle, Imogene; Father Reise, Lenox, Father Mc Henry, St. Columbans, Nebr.; Mrs. Mary Monaghan, Winterset; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Everitt, Mrs. Leo Daly, Mrs. Kitty Giluglan, Mr. Harry Loutzenhiser, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Reifert, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Tobin, Ed Green, Miss Marcella Brennon, all of Omaha; Mrs. Carl Alin, Mrs. Oscar Lofgren, Mrs. Claude Rector, Mrs. C. V. Bergren, Mrs. S. L. Davis, Mrs. Leonard Alm, Mr. and Mrs. George Schmid, and Elizabeth Schmid, all of Red Oak; Mr. and Mrs. Art Schweers, Lenox; an Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Hogan, Nodaway.
