Stephen Steele died at his home northwest of town last Wednesday, Feb. 12th. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Christian church.

Mr. Stephen Steele who has been ailing in health for two years or more, passed away at his home northwest of town last Thursday evening, February 12th.
Mr. Steele was one of the early settlers of South township, coming here in the year 1853, settling on a farm now owned by G. S. Haynes. Steele’s branch derives its name from this family.
Mr. Steele was married to Miss Jane Graves, a daughter of Joel Graves, who settled in Scott township about 1852 on the farm now owned by Tom Doak. She died nearly 20 years ago.
Mr. Steele leaves to mourn his death, two daughters, Mrs. Mila Daugherty of St. Charles, who made her home with him for many years and cared for him in his declining years, and Mrs. Flora Bowers of Des Moines, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at the Christian church at St. Charles by the pastor, Rev. Rogers and interment was made at the St. Charles Cemetery by the side of his departed wife.
