Chester Arthur Kenworthy

The community was shocked Monday to learn of the death of Chester Arthur Kenworthy, residing in the DeSoto neighborhood, following an attack of lobar pneumonia. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Kenworthy, and spent most of his life in this vicinity, residing on the Clarence Wilson farm west of town until two years ago. The entire family, including Mr. and Mrs. Kenworthy and baby and the hired man contracted influenza at about the same time and were all cared for in the earlier stages of the disease.

The funeral, such as it is, public funerals being strictly prohibited by the state health laws in cases of such disease, will be held at Bear Creek today and interment made there. Mrs. Kenworthy and the baby boy will have the sincere sympathy of the entire community. Mr. Kenworthy was a young man, being born on Oct. 23, 1890.

Chester A., son of Ellis and Minnie Kenworthy, was born near Canby, Iowa, October 28, 1890. When he was eleven years old, his mother died.

On June 25th, 1912, he was married to Cecile Harris of Bear Creek. To them was born one son, Harris W. For a short time after their marriage they lived in Minnesota, and four years ago purchased a home near DeSoto, Iowa, where they prospered and life was happy and bright, until February 2nd, 1920, when after a short illness, he passed to the beyond, leaving crushed hearts and a broken home. Five years a he was converted and united with the Friends Church at Bear Creek, of which he was a member at the time of his death.

After moving near DeSoto, he with his wife, attended the M. E. Church, and were most helpful in organizing and maintaining a young married people’s class in the Sunday School.

He was a most affectionate and kind husband and father.

There remain the wife, son, father, and one brother, numerous other relatives and many friends.

While we do not know why one so young and promising should be called away, yet, as always, there is comfort in the words of the Master, “What I do thou knowest not now—but thou shalt know hereafter.”

As no funeral service could be held at the time of his death, a Memorial Service was held on Sunday morning, April 25th, at 11 o’clock, at the Bear Creek Church.
