MARGARET ANN MOORE

Margaret Ann Brown, daughter of Austin G. and Pleasant Brown, was born Dec. 19, 1834 in Belmont county, Ohio, and died Nov. 21, 1919, being almost 85 years old. She was married to Jehu Moore, Aug. 26, 1856 and fourteen days later they started by wagon for Iowa. Five weeks and two days later, they landed in Madison county, where she resided until March 6, 1917, when she went to Osceola to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Stoneman. She was the mother of five children: Mrs. Mary Silliman of Peru; Mrs. Sarah Stoneman of Osceola, Mrs. Martha McGinnis, who died March 9, 1896, Mrs. Rachel Hogg, who died Nov. 14, 1918 and Mrs. Lila Rhodes of Culdesac, Idaho. Her husband died July 20, 1890.

Mrs. Moore united with the M. E. church in Ohio in 1844 and after coming to Iowa, she united with the M. E. church of Peru, where she held her membership until moving to Winterset, where she became a member of the church of her choice and remained a faithful member till death. She lived a faithful, consistent Christian life. . She was a loving mother, kind friend and neighbor.

Short services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Stoneman, by Rev. McKay of Osceola, then the remains were taken to Peru, where Rev. Smith conducted the funeral services. She was laid to rest by her husband in the Peru cemetery.
