December 1976O. H. Smith of Crystal Lake Dies
Funeral services were held December 6 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake for Orrin H. Smith who passed away unexpectedly at his home in Crystal Lake December 2 at the age of 72 years.
The Rev. John C. Gartley, pastor, officiated, and comfort in music was by Mrs. Frank Haugland, soloist, and Mrs. Barbara Larson, organist. Casket bearers were Howard Fredrickson, Gilbert Hefti, James Kirschbaum, James Nelson, Kelvin Sorenson, and Howard Stevens. Honorary casket bearers were Larry Johnson, Michael Johnson, Dennis Johnson, Randy Johnson, Erbin Anderson and Lawrence Lonning.
Arrangements were by Olson - Peterson Funeral Home of Forrest City, and burial was in the Crystal Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born in Madison County, Iowa, January 17, 1904, the son of Oscar H. and Myrtle Osborn Smith. At nine years of age, he was taken into the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Hanson and attended the Crystal Lake schools. At 18, he left home to work in various parts of the country.
On August 18, 1933, he was married to Lorraine Ross at Lorimor. He worked in Western states for five years, returning to the farm in the Crystal Lake area in 1939. In 1959, he moved to Crystal Lake working for Frazer Farms until retirement in 1966.
Mr. Smith is survived by his four children, Paul and Richard Smith, both of Crystal Lake, Allen Hanson of Cedar Rapids, and Mary Lou, Mrs. Ray Johnson, of Crystal Lake. Also, four sisters, Mrs. Florence Gephart of Des Moines, Mrs. Eva Gano, Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Lyle (Evelyn) Dallman, of Britt, and Vera Hanson of Rockford, Illinois, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on June 6, 1950, three brothers, Elva Smith and Hilton and Herbert Hanson, and one sister Florence Hanson.
