Dennis Reed, Winterset

Longtime businessman, Dennis Reed, 74, of Sioux City, Iowa and formerly of Winterset and Mapleton, Iowa died Sunday, January 29, 2012, at Touchstone Living Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

The funeral service will be Thursday, February 2 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Rev. Pastor Scott Jensen officiating. Graveside services and burial will be in the Lanesboro Cemetery in Lanesboro, Iowa at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 1 after 4 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a time of sharing at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Survivors include his wife, Aggie; daughter, Shelly Christophersen and her husband Joe of Bronson, Iowa and son, Kelly Reed and his wife, Karen, of Sioux, City, Iowa and three grandchildren.

DENNIS REED, SIOUX CITY

Dennis Reed, 74, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Winterset, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at Touchstone Living Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

The funeral service was held Thursday, Feb. 2, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Rev. Pastor Scott Jensen officiating. Graveside services and burial were held in the Lanesboro Cemetery in Lanesboro, Iowa.

Dennis Harry Reed was born Jan. 18, 1938, at Lake City, Iowa, the son of Harry and Ruth (Sylvester) Reed. In 1955, he graduated from Lohrville High School with his high school sweetheart, Agnes Louise “Aggie” Best. Denny and Aggie were married March 2, 1957, in the Country Church at Glidden, Iowa. He worked at Security Savings in Scranton, where he soon started an insurance agency. In 1968, Denny and Aggie purchased Ulrich Furniture Store in Mapleton, Iowa, moved their family there, and opened their new business, Reed Furniture, which he later expanded in Scranton, Carroll and Cherokee, Iowa. In the early 80s he closed the stores and returned to the insurance business at Equitable Insurance in Sioux City. In 1992, the couple moved to Winterset, where Denny worked at the Investment Center. He then started his own investment brokerage firm, Investment Center of Winterset, later renaming it Bridges Financial. In 2007, he sold his business but continued to work there until retirement in 2009. In August 2011, Denny and Aggie moved to Sioux City to be closer to their family. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset as well as many civic groups in the community. Denny was also awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Winterset Chamber of Commerce.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Ruth Reed; his parents-in-law, John and Louise Best; a brother-in-law, John Dean Best; a nephew, David Best, Jr.; and a great-niece, Rachel Best.
He is survived by his wife, Aggie; daughter, Shelly Christophersen Bronson, Iowa, and son, Kelly Reed of Sioux, City, Iowa; three grandchildren; one brother, Jack Reed Cedar Falls, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Patty Addison of Lanesboro, Iowa; and brothers-in-law Bill Best of Fort Dodge, Iowa, David Best of Carroll, Iowa, Jerry Best of Denison, Iowa, Jim Best of Sioux Falls, SD, and Pastor Paul Best of Social Circle, Ga.; along with many nieces, nephews and a number of friends.
