RESON JONES NATIVE OF COUNTY DIES IN DETROIT

Attorney Prominent in Civic and Scholastic Affairs Many Years

Reson Jones, a native of Jackson township in this county, but for many years one of the most prominent attorneys in Des Moines, succumbed to a heart attack on Wednesday night of last week at the Henry Ford hospital in Detroit. He was 65 years of age.

Mr. Jones was stricken while driving through Detroit, with a party returning to Des Moines from a trip to New York, N. Y., where they had attended the world’s fair.

Mr. Jones was born in Madison county, near Pitzer. He attended the local schools and entered Drake University in Des Moines to study law in 1896. Upon graduation, he entered a law partnership with C. E. Hunn and practiced until 1922, when he was named city solicitor. After four years in that office, he was named city corporation counsel. He served in that capacity for two years before returning to private practice.

He was an active member of the University Church of Christ in Des Moines, where he was an elder and was best known for his interest in Drake University, and particularly in the Drake relays. He was secretary of the Drake board of trustees and a member of the executive committee. He was one of the founders of the relays, and served on the committee in charge in various capacities for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife; two sisters, Mrs. Maude McChesney of Des Moines, and Mrs. Cora Bush of Van Horn; and two brothers, John Jones of Woodward and Joseph Jones of Stuart.

Note: Burial was made in the Glendale cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa.
