Week’s Letter from Earlham

Mrs. W. A. Ory died at her home Monday, January 16th, following a heart attack. Mrs. Ory who was 76 years old at the time of her death, had been in failing health for some time. Short services were held at the house Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Charles Burnette, after which the body was taken to Scranton, Kan., for burial. Mrs. Ory was born in Illinois. In 1878 she was married to Titus Harris and they moved to Kansas. Four children were born to them: Nettie Eckstine of Winterset, Lee and George Harris of Earlham and Cora Shoup of Danforth, Ill. Mr. Harris died in 1890. In 1897 she was married to W. A. Ory, who died in 1930. Beside her children, Mrs. Ory leaves 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Mrs. W. A. Ory died at her home here Monday following a sudden heart attack. She had been in failing health for some time. Mrs. Ory was 76 years old. A funeral service in charge of Rev. Chas. Burnette was held at the home Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock. The body was taken to Scranton, Kansas, for burial.

Melissa Ory of Earlham, Iowa, was born near Carlock, Illinois and died at her home in Earlham on January 16, 1939.

She was married to Titus Harris in 1867 and moved to Kansas. To their union were born four children, Nettie Eckstine of Winterset, Lee Harris and George Harris of Earlham and Cora Shoup of Danforth, Illinois. Mr. Harris preceded her in death in 1890.

In 1897 she was married to W. A. Ory of Secor, Illinois where they made their home until 1902 when they moved to Iowa. Mr. Ory died in 1930.

Besides her children she leaves 15 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors.
