CLELL HIATT

W. E. Hiatt, received word late Wednesday evening that his brother, Clell, a member of Co. A. 168th Infantry, was killed in action during the battle of Sergy, which occurred on July 27 – 28 , 1918. Sgt. Null, just back from France, brought the sad news to the relatives. No official notice has yet been received of his death.

CLELL HIATT, Body of Clell Hiatt of Company A

Interred With Military Honors.

Clell Hiatt, son of Lewis and Arville Hiatt, was born at Peru, Iowa, September 16, 1898.

On April 12, 1917 he enlisted in Compay A. 168th infantry of the Rainbow Division in the World War, and went to France with that organization. At the battle of Sergy, he was acting as a runner when he was killed on Hill 212 by machine gun bullets on July 30, 1918.

Clell Hiatt was a member of the M. E. church at Peru, having joined when young. He leaves a mother, two sisters and four brothers to mourn him. Funeral services were held at Peru Wednesday afternoon under the auspices of Green-Rogers post, American Legion of Winterset.
