Phoebe M. Allison was born in Savannah, Andrew county, Missouri, on Feb. 18, 1843 and died at her home in Almena, Kansas, July 29, 1918, at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 13 days.
She was married to J. L. Garst on March l, 1866 at Winterset, Iowa. To this union three children were born, two of whom survive her: Mrs. Rosa M. Hamilton of Casey, Iowa, and Mrs. Annie B. Hines of Almena, Kansas. One son, George A., departed this life at the age of 4 years. She also leaves to mourn her loss, her aged husband, J. L. Garst and five grand children, besides a host of friends.
Mrs. Garst came to Kansas with her family in November, 1893 and for several years they rented a farm northeast of Almena, then buying and improving a farm of their own. In November 1914, Mrs. Garst with her husband, moved to Almena, where they lived at the time of her death.
She was converted and joined the Church of God in Iowa in 1882 and lived a consistent Christian life. Her mind was clear and active until a few hours before she passed to her reward.
The funeral services were held at the Congregational church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. L. Johnson and interment was made in Mt. Hope cemetery.
