September 4, 1918, page 4Death of JAMES WITHEROW
With the death of James Witherow on last Friday, August 31st, ended the original Witherow family. In the past nine years, the father, mother, sister, brother, and sister in law have died, leaving Mr. Witherow, one niece Miss Margaret Witherow and her brother, the only members of the old stock.
For several years, Mr. Witherow has been afflicted with disease, accompanied by frequent periods of severe suffering. Throughout all of his illness, he preserved his cheerful uncomplaining disposition. Of a very quiet nature, Mr. Witherow held old friends closely, who gave him devoted service. Unassuming and kind, he kept to the end, the respect and esteem of associates.
The Witherow family came to Madison county from Guernsey county, Ohio, in 1853, assuming a prominent part in the rural life of this vicinity. By hard work and good judgment, the Witherows became prosperous. After his father's death, the family came to Winterset to make their home. Mr. Witherow was a faithful church man, enjoying its services.
Funeral services were held Sunday morning at ten o'clock, conducted by Rev. Jacksons Giddens.
Transcriber's note: Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
