HIRAM McNAIR Killed By Kick Of Horse

Hy McNair of Webster township, was instantly killed some time Monday forenoon when kicked by a horse he was leading from water. The body was discovered by his brother about 2:30 in the afternoon when he returned from the timber with a load of wood. As nearly as can be ascertained, he had been killed about ten in the morning.

Mr. McNair and his brother, James McNair, reside on the W. A. Bond farm about eight miles southwest of Winterset. The brother went to the timber in the morning for a load of wood and during his absence, the elder brother, a man 75 years of age, led the horse, a spirited colt, to water. From investigations made it appeared that the colt had reared and kicked in play, and an ugly wound just below the ear showed the marks of the horse's hoof and to all appearances, death had been instantaneous.

Acting coroner W. W. Cassiday and County Clerk Griswold were called out, but the cause of death was so clearly shown, that an inquest was not considered necessary.
