Funeral services for William Conkling, who died Saturday morning in a Waterloo hospital were held from the Methodist church here Sunday, conducted by Rev. Wilkins, and burial was in the Peru Cemetery.

Mr. Conkling was born in Denver, Colorado. When he was three years old his mother died in one he was still a very young boy’s father died.

He learned telegraphy and followed this up to the time of his last illness, a few months ago. He held positions in many places in the United States and came to Peru about 20 years ago, holding a position here until about five years ago when he was transferred to Waterloo.

He leaves no relatives but many friends. Two outstanding characteristics of Mr. Conkling’s nature were his generosity and his love for children, for which he will long be remembered.
