MRS. MARTHA FOSHER

Mrs. Martha Fosher, widow of Jas. Fosher, and an early resident of Madison county, died at the home of her daughter at Woodward, Iowa, on last Saturday. The body was brought to Winterset on Tuesday and burial made at Union Chapel cemetery.

The deceased was a sister of Mrs. George Gardner of this place. Mrs. Fosher and husband were among the earlier residents of this county, residing on what is now known as the Dewitt Bass farm on the Bluffs road. Six children survive.

Mrs. Mattie Fosher

Martha Duncan, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Duncan, was born in Carroll county, Indiana, March 15, 1844 and lived there with her parents until at the age of nine years when she moved to Madison county, Iowa.

At the age of 21 years she was united in marriage to James Fosher. To this union was born seven children. All survive but Orpha E., who died at the age of four and a half years. The surviving children are Mrs. Eltha Archer, of Glendon, Iowa; Mrs. Effie Greenfield, of Dexter, Iowa; Christian D. Fosher, of Olympia, Washington; Otis E. Fosher, of Carroll, Minnesota; Mrs. Velda Finley, of Churdan, Iowa, and Mrs. Grace Hannran, of Woodward, at whose home she passed away, on April 13, 1918, at the age of 74 years and 29 days.

Besides the surviving children she leaves twenty five grandchildren, three sisters and one brother. At an early age she joined the church and has always lived a good and useful life. In 1878 her companion departed this life, leaving her the care of the family, which duty she performed faithfully as all are now grown to man and womanhood. She was kind and good to all always doing all the good she could for others.

She was laid to rest in the Union Chapel cemetery east of Winterset beside her husband who departed this life many years ago.
