MRS. MATILDA BUCHANAN

Matilda Clemens was born in Kentucky, July 31, 1835 and died at Winterset, Iowa, March 31, 1918, aged 83 years and 8 months.

At the age of four she moved with her parents to Indiana, where she lived until 16 years of age. She then came with her parents to Des Moines county, Iowa. On Oct 5, 1855 she was united in marriage to Samuel Buchanan, who died May 30, 1899. To this union were born five children: Mary J. Duskin and Lydia A. Hindman of Winterset, Wm. A. Buchanan, who died at the age of eight, James H. Buchanan of Adel and Minnie Martin of Creston.

In 1885, they moved with their family to Anita, Iowa, where she resided for 18 years, after which she came to Winterset and spent the remaining years of her life. At the age of 19 years, she was converted and united with the Baptist church, of which she was a faithful member until her death. Besides her children, she leaves to mourn her loss, 20 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Tidrick undertaking parlors, Monday afternoon at 3:30. Burial took place Tuesday at Anita.
