The funeral of Jim Hockett, who died at the home of his daughter in Grinnell, was held on Saturday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. Lescault having charge of the service. Mr. Hockett has lived most of his 67 years in Earlham and vicinity and had many friends here.
He leaves four children; Mrs. Jesse Hester of Earlham, Charles of San Francisco, Edgar of Omaha and Mrs. John Morgan of Grinnell, to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father, who had been a Christian for many years and left a bright testimony to those who remain.
His wife died many years ago leaving him the responsibility of raising their four children. Only two children were present at the funeral, Mrs. Hester and Edgar, who with his wife, came from Omaha. The Morgan family were all sick with the flu.

Dec 5, 1918James W. Hockett, son of David and Mary Jane Hockett was born in Henry County, Iowa on the 25th of June 1853, being the oldest of five children and one foster sister.
When twelve years of age, he with his parents and one brother came to Madison county, Iowa, and settled on what is now northeast Earlham in the community. Here his young manhood was spent. On May 5th, 1878 he was married to Mary A. Lippincott at Dexter, Iowa.
To this union were born four children, Mrs. J. E. Hester, Charles B. Hockett, Edgar W. Hockett and Mrs. J. H. Morgan.
On April 6, 1893, his companion died leaving him the care of the children. He maintained his house for them until the youngest child was married, after which he made his home with his children.
He was a birthright member of the Friends church. He ----- thirty-three years ago at a revival meeting at Pleasant Hill church. He often spoke of his conversion and his faith in Jesus Christ.
He was a cheerful disposition and showed a special fondness for children. He was kind and considerate of every one.
A little more than two years ago he suffered a paralytic stroke, from which he never fully recovered, but he bore his affliction with much patience. He passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. H. Morgan at Grinnell, Iowa on the 29th of November, 1918, being 65 years, 5 months and 4 days old. He leaves one brother, one sister, one foster sister, four children, seven grandchildren and other relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
Funeral services were held from the Welch & Benson undertaking parlors Nov. 30 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Chas. Lescault officiating. Interment was in Earlham cemetery.
