Today, Monday, the death toll numbers four, resulting from the dreaded flu epidemic.
(Following was information on the deaths of Ivan Allen, Laura Davis, and William Bird Landis)
Others who have succumbed to the disease are: Mrs. Bessie Nichols, wife of Robt. Nichols, passed away Sunday night after a brief illness. She leaves a husband and one son three years of age, who will greatly miss her. The hour of the burial has not been set as yet.

Page 1, Column 2Bessie McKibban Nichols was born near Peru, Madison county, Iowa August 18, 1896 and departed this life Monday morning, December 9, 1918, aged 22 years, 3 months and 21 days. She was united in marriage to Robert C. Nichols September 23, 1913, at Corning, Iowa. To this union were born three children, two daughters and a son. The little daughters departing life in infancy, the latter in last March. The little son, John Lester, aged three years, survives her.
Mrs. Nichols was taken from us very suddenly and unexpectedly, being sick only a few days with Spanish influenza. Her death was a terrific shock to all relatives, neighbors and friends.
She leaves to mourn her loss, a husband, Robert C. Nichols, and the little son, John Lester, a mother, Mrs. F M. McKibban, of Winterset, a sister, Gladys M. Smay, of Des Moines, a brother, Pvt. Glenn S. McKibban, somewhere in France, and Marie, Marion, Zada, Josephine, Joe and Bernice. The younger brothers and sisters still at home.
