Old settlers of the McDonald neighborhood will remember Hugh Ballentine. This paper has just learned of Mr. Ballentine's death which took place at Onaga, Kansas on Jan. 30th. The Ballentines came to Madison county in 1856 and for many years lived on the farm now owned by Lewis Aikins in section 28, Jefferson. The grove at Ballentine's Bridge was the scene of many Fourth of July celebrations and political meetings in early days. The family moved to Kansas in 1879.

Mrs. Ballentine survives the husband and one daughter, Mrs. Ferd Schoen, resides here.
