Death of Capt. Barker

Pioneer Citizen of Madison County, and Veteran of Civil War, Dies in California

Capt. E. G. Barker, one of the early settlers of this county, and for many years a prominent factor in the political and commercial activities of this county, died recently at his home in Palo Alto, California.

He was born in Indiana in 1836, came to Madison county in 1853, enlisted with the First Iowa Cavalry in the civil war for two and a half years and afterward in the Infantry service. He took a prominent part in political affairs and served two terms as county treasurer of Madison county.

He is survived by his wife, the son Guy Barker, who resides in Alberta, Canada and two daughters; Mrs. Maude B. Neff of Palo Alto, Calif. and Mrs. G. B. Jenkins of Davis Calif.
