Page 5Margaret Latta was born in Putman county, Ohio, October 8, 1849 and departed this life at her home in Truro, Iowa, March 15, 1935, age 85 years, 5 months and 7 days. On June 13, 1864 she was united in marriage to John W. Leggett who preceded her in death July 26, 1921. Their home was blest with eight children, of these four have died, Charles Edson, James Elmer, John Franklin and Mrs. Gertrude Dowler. The surviving children are William C. and Mrs. Cora James of Des Moines, Mrs. Nellie E. Fulton and Mrs. Sadie Porter of Truro. She also leaves 37 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren.
She was a lifelong member of the Christian church who spared no effort to build these ideals into the lives of her dear ones.
She came with her parents from Ohio in a covered wagon when 4 years of age, and was indeed one of Iowa’s pioneers, having lived in the state 81 years and Madison county 47 years.
Funeral services were held from the Christian church Sunday afternoon, with a grandson Hugh Dowler officiating and interment was in the St. Charles cemetery. Six grandsons were acting pallbearers.
