Death of Mrs. Sarah E. Gowin

Mrs. Sarah E. Gowin, former Madison county resident, died at her home on Hull avenue in Des Moines, Thursday, October 24th at the age of 77 years. The deceased, who was a daughter of Jacob and Mary Gabbert, pioneer Madison county settlers, was born January 27, 1858 in Madison township. She grew to womanhood in this township and was married to William S. Gowin in 1874.

Mr. Gowin died in 1927, and three of their ten children have also preceded them in death. The surviving children are James of Portland, Oregon; Charles of Lacona; Mrs. Bertha Billings of Ankeny; Arthur of Davenport; George of Van Meter; Mrs. Jennie Bales of Libertyville, and Dean of Des Moines. She also leaves two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Effie Jones of Stuart, Mrs. Ella Foster of Sioux City, and Thomas Gabbart of California.

The Rev. --- Simpson of the Wesley Methodist church of Des Moines conducted the funeral services at the Methodist church in Van Meter, Saturday afternoon, October 26th, at 2:00 o’clock. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery.
