DEATH OF W. S. DOUD

W. S. Doud, former furniture dealer in Winterset, died Saturday, February 23, at the home of his son Hubert Doud in Riverside, at the age of 86 years. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Fred W. Miller of the Riverside Methodist church at Riverside, and the body was brought here, where brief services were held at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, Tuesday afternoon, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Mr. Doud was born in Van Buren county, and spent his youth on his farm there. In 1869 he accepted a position as station agent for the Keokuk and Des Moines railway, with whom he remained for four and one-half years. He later made his home in Mitchellville, where he operated a print shop.

On December 12, 1878 he was married to Mary Florence Henshie of Mitchellville. Leaving Mitchellville, he operated a furniture store at Guthrie Center, and later at Winterset, where he was in business for 30 years. He was later a traveling salesman for a wholesale furniture company. Mrs. Doud died in Winterset, July 15, 1916.

Since 1921 he has made his home with his son Hubert at Riverside, with the exception of two years, when he operated a grocery store at Kalona.

He leaves two sons, Howard H. Doud of Des Moines, and Hubert E. Doud of Riverside. He also leaves a brother, A. L. Doud of Dows, Iowa and a sister Malissa Harwood of Keosauqua.
