DEATH OF W. D. CLINE

William Granville Dodge Cline, former Winterset groceryman died at his home on South Fourth avenue, Wednesday night, May 23rd, shortly after eleven o’clock, at the age of 72 years. Mr. Cline had been in poor health for several years, and has been critically ill the past three weeks.

The deceased was a son of William and Magdalene Cline. He was born in Madison county, January 1, 1862, and had spent most of his life in Winterset and this community. His early life during the Civil War was spent in Douglas township, he living with his Grandfather and Grandmother Goar, while his father served in the Civil War.

Mr. Cline was married to Miss Lillie Mae Thornburg, on November 20, 1884, and they were the parents of four children, who with the mother survive him. The Clines united with the Winterset Church of Christ in 1884 and since that date, they have been active workers in the church.

Dodge Cline, as he was known here, was associated with different firms in the grocery business. At one time he was a partner with Mont Johnson and later with Everett Clark.

He is survived by his wife and their four children: Mrs. Amy Ragan of Mitchellville, Earl D. Cline of Dubuque, Mrs. Florence May Simpson of Winterset and Mrs. Verna Shoemaker of Kalispell, Montana. He also leaves one aunt, Mrs. Will Paullin and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

The Rev. Olmstead conducted the funeral services at the Church of Christ, Sunday, May 26th at three o’clock and interment was in the Winterset cemetery.

Pallbearers were Guy Wilkinson, Lloyd Wilkinson, J. C. Johnson, Raymond Vance, E. R. Leinard and Ed Benson.
