Betty M. Pace, age 86, of Alta died Thursday, November 3, 2011 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday November 8, 2011 at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Betty Maxine (Mitchell) Pace was born on February 15, 1925 to Margaret Huisman and Charles Mitchell in Prairie City, Iowa.
Betty was graduated from North High School in Des Moines and married Floyd Pace in May of 1944. This past spring Betty and Floyd celebrated 67 years together.
Betty studied Library Science and Spanish at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake and served as city librarian for Alta, Iowa for 20 years. Reading, gardening, traveling and most of all, family were her favorite pastimes. She kept special memories of three months spent in South America with her husband, and their trips to China, Canada, and Mexico.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Floyd and a brother Ray. She is survived by a son, Michael (Gail), a daughter Kathleen (Mark); grandchildren Timothy (Kari) Limbert, Nicholas (Roxanne) Pace, Michael Koth, Nicholas (Cali) Sorbe and Adam Sorbe; great-grandchildren Sienna and Adison Pace and Peter and Johnathon Limbert; a sister Delora Hodges.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Dr. Floyd A. and Betty Pace Memorial Scholarship Fund for aspiring teachers of modern languages at Buena Vista University. Memorials may be sent to: 902 Lakeshore Dr., Lakeside, IA 50588.
