Page 8Services for Charles E. McLaughlin Held
Funeral rites were held last Wednesday, April 16 for Charles E. McLaughlin, a well-known farmer and member of a pioneer Lee Township family. Mr. McLaughlin died Sunday April 13 at the West Park Nursing Home in West Des Moines. He was 86 years of age.
Charles E. McLaughlin was born in Lee Township on September 20, 1888, the son of Michael and Susan Cassady McLaughlin. He was married on September 11, 1916 to Jane Aller.
Mr. McLaughlin was a life-long resident of Madison County, living on the same Lee Township farm for most of his life, until moving to West Des Moines recently. Mr. McLaughlin was active in community affairs throughout his life.
Survivors include seven sons: Charles and Gene McLaughlin of Des Moines, Bud McLaughlin of West Des Moines, Vernon, Lewis and Ray McLaughlin of Cumming, and Marvin McLaughlin of Flint, Michigan. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. McLaughlin was preceded in death by his wife, Jane in 1967. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral Mass and burial were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 16 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in the Irish Settlement of Lee Township with Father Frank Bognanno officiating. Assisting with the services were Father Dan Clarke of St. Marys, Father Richard Bergman of Churchville and Father Lawrence Beeson of Council Bluffs, all former pastors of St. Patricks.
