LEE SMITH, Winterset

Lee Smith, 81, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Mercy in Des Moines.

A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 21 at Ochiltree Funeral Service, where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be no services. Memorials to his family.

He is survived by his wife Betty of Winterset; five children, Dale (Sondra) Smith of Jefferson; Gary (Lisa) Smith of Winterset; Jean (Craig) Wagner of Lorimor; Kevin (Tammy) Smith of Afton; Steven (Jennifer) Smith of DeSoto; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

LEE SMITH, Winterset

Lee Smith, 81, of Winterset died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

There will be no funeral service. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to his family.

Lee was born May 23, 1930, in Maryville, Mo., the son of Loran and Lottie (Pike) Smith. He graduated from Maryville High School in the class of 1948 and later went on to serve in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. His marriage to Betty Lucille Parker took place on Oct. 7, 1952, in Maryville, Mo. Lee worked about 15 years for Schildburg Quarry and retired from there in 1991. He also worked as a mechanic and truck driver for John Deere in Winterset.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Don, Dean, Kenny and Russell Hilsenbeck, Dorwin Blank; a sister, Reba Gray and two great-grandchildren, Hayden Brian Smith and Colby Kay Smith.

He is survived by his wife Betty of Winterset; his five children, Dale Smith of Jefferson; Gary Smith of Winterset; Jean Wagner of Lorimor; Kevin Smith of Afton and Steven Smith of DeSoto. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
