LEOTA B HUSTON, WINTERSET

Leota B Huston, 95, of Winterset, died Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, June 29) at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Rev. Bill Branson officiating. Burial will be in the Peru Cemetery at Peru, Iowa.

Leota, also known as “Otie B”, was born on Jan. 19, 1916, at Lorimor, Iowa, to Elmer and Carrie (Palmer) Hiskey. She was a graduate of Lorimor High School and was married on Oct. 7, 1935, to LeRoy “Roy” Merle Huston at Winterset. Leota had spent her lifetime around Madison County and had been a homemaker. She belonged to the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Eastern Star and the Peru United Methodist Church.

Leota is survived by her brother, Maynard “Bing” Hiskey of West Des Moines; sister, Mildred Pauline “Polly” Rakes of Camdenton, Mo.; grandchildren Carolyn O’Leary of Urbandale, Jerry Mitchell of Winterset, David Mitchell of Winterset, Barb Welch of Winterset; great-grandchildren Brian O’Leary, Rachelle O’Leary, Randi Mitchell, J.D. Mitchell, Zach Mitchell, Jasmine Blaylock and Dallas Chapman; great-great-grandchildren Aubrey O’Leary, Reece O’Leary, Jaden Blaylock, Carter Benge and Gavin Chapman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Carrie (Palmer) Hiskey; husband, Roy Huston; daughter, Marilyn Cooper; brother, Clifford “Bus” Hiskey; sisters, Lula “Dude” Johnson, Lena “Tid” Peterson, and Francis Benson.

Memorials may be directed to her family for a future designation.

Funeral arrangements were handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
