TRAVIS RAY SCHAFER, Earlham

Travis Ray Schafer, age 31, died at his home in Earlham May 12, 2011.

Graveside funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday May 16, 2011 at the Dexter Cemetery. Family will greet friends directly before and after the service at the cemetery.

Travis is survived by his daughter Chelsea Christiansen of Adel, sons Carter and Seth Schafer of Earlham, fiance Cassidy Lull of Earlham, parents Eugene and Vicky Schafer of Dexter, brother Cody Schafer of Dexter, sister Brook Lenze of Dexter, paternal grandmother Pearl Schafer of Dexter and maternal grandparents Ray and Gail Jennings of Des Moines.

Travis Ray Schafer was born the son of Vicky (Jennings) and Eugene Schafer on April 4, 1980 in Des Moines, Iowa. He died at his home in Earlham on May 12, 2011 at the age of 31 years, 1 month and 8 days.

Travis attended Earlham Schools and graduated with a diploma from DMACC. Travis loved all sports and was very active in football, baseball and track. He was a member of the Earlham FFA Chapter. While growing upon the farm, Travis was a member of the Penn Prize Winners 4-H Club. During this time he showed both hogs and sheep at the Madison County Fair and won Grand Champion Gilt Show for one of his hogs. Travis was baptized in the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter in 1980, however received his confirmation at the First Presbyterian Church in Dexter. Travis enjoyed working with cars. He once owned and drove a stock car at the Stuart Speedway. He was always good with his hands. He was a self-employed contractor doing construction on houses, and roofs. Travis enjoyed playing pool from time to time and was a lifeguard at the Earlham swimming pool.

Travis is survived by his children: daughter Chelsea Christiansen of Adel; sons Carter and Seth Schafer of Earlham; parents Eugene and Vicky Schafer of Dexter; brother Cody Schafer of Dexter; sister Brook Lenze of Dexter; maternal grandparents Ray and Gail Jennings of Des Moines; and paternal grandmother Pearl Schafer of Dexter.

Travis was a loving father, son and fiancé and was cherished by his family and friends. He will be missed.

Funeral services and interment were Monday, May 16 at the Dexter Cemetery. Jim Tishim and Pastor Ernest Baiotto officiated. Professional arrangements by Kuhn Funeral Homes.
