Donald Reid 93, formerly of 425 McKinley Ave. died Monday May 9, 2011 at the Winterset Care Center, Winterset, Donald had also been a resident of Prarie Hill in Ottumwa.
He was born May 16, 1917 in Mahaska County to John and Clara Witt Reid. Donald married Maybelle Mc Landsborough on May 29, 1946, she preceded him in death on December 9, 1993. He served during WW II as a Sargent in the 1st Army Air Force and was employed by Hardscog Pneumatic tool Co. for 15 years and also Iowa Malleable Iron Co. for 25 years.
Donald was a member of the First Presbyterian church serving as a decon and elder. he was also a member of the Elks. He loved to garden and was amember of the B-Squared dancing club, Donald also was a avid wood worker. Donald also was a graduate of Rosehill High School in 1935 and from William Penn College 1939 with a B.A. degree in Ecomonics and Commerce.
He is survived by Two daughters Barbara Reid of Burnsville MN and Elizabeth (Scott) Benjamin of Lakewood MN. One son John (Janet) of Truro Ia., also surviving are two grandchildren Melissa Benjamin and Reid Benjamin. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a sister Ester Ross of Oskaloosa.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday May 17, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Klanderman officating. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church until service time. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, graveside military services will be conducted by the Americal Legion post 34 of Oskaloosa.
