Caroline I. McVay, 70, of Hiawatha, formerly of Cedar Falls, Harrison, Ark., and Afton, died Jan. 22, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Services are pending at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston.

Caroline I. McVay, 70, of Hiawatha, formerly of Cedar Falls, Harrison, Ark., and Afton, died Jan. 22, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, Creston. The Rev. Dwayne Henrichs will officiate. Burial will be in Moon Cemetery south of Macksburg. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to the family.

Caroline I. McVay, 70, of Hiawatha, IA, formerly of Cedar Falls, IA, Harrison, AR and Afton, IA, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Ia. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Powers Funeral Home junction of highways 34 and 25 in Creston. Pastor Dwayne Henrichs will officiate. Burial will be at Moon Cemetery, south of Macksburg, Ia. Open visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wed. at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Caroline I. McVay, daughter of Julian Charles McMullen and Florence Elaine (Thomas) McMullen, was born Jan. 19, 1941 in Austin, MN. She grew up in Austin and attended school at the Pachelli Catholic School until the 11th grade and received her GED June 2nd, 1997.

She met and married Robert M. Brimacomb in Austin, MN on October 12th, 1957. They then moved to the Cedar Falls/Waterloo, IA area where she was a homemaker and a waitress. To this union four children were born. Caroline and Robert were later divorced and she later married Kerry (Bud) Conaway of Waterloo until his death in 1977. She then met and married John D. McVay of Waterloo.

She worked at Waterloo Industries as an assembly technician and inspector for 23 years retiring in 1998. Caroline and John moved to Harrison, AR in 2000 and lived there until his death October 12, 2007. Caroline then moved to the Afton/Arispe area then moved to the Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha, IA.

Caroline’s hobbies included cooking, reading, spending time with family and friends who were very special to her. Caroline was a member of the Eagles Lodge of Creston, IA, Buzz’s Bar Association of Waterloo, IA and the U.A.W. Local #838 of Waterloo, IA.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Brimacomb of Cedar Rapids, IA and Diana (Bill) Patterson of Leeds, AL; a son, Robert P. Brimacomb (Cheryl) of Cedar Falls, IA; two step-daughters, Corina (Ryan) McVay of Independence, MO. and Marsha Henderson of Oklahoma City, OK; two step-sons, Kevin (Angie ) McVay of Cromwell, IA and Brian (Leann) McVay of Bridgewater, IA.;21 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sandra (Ralph) Howard of Austin, MN.; a brother, Michael McMullen of Lake City, MN; two brothers-in-law, Duane (Sharon) McVay of Rogers, AR. and Abe (Barb) McVay of Winterset, IA; two sisters-in-laws, Judy (Von) Tull and Beth (Jim) McGrath, both of Afton, IA. Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John in 2007, a daughter, Karen Brimacomb, five brother-in-laws, four sister-in-laws, many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
