John G. Confer was born in Ohio in 1828 and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Minnie Rogers, northwest of Macksburg, Dec. 12, 1917, aged 89 years, 11 months and 4 days.
With his parents, he removed to Indiana in 1844. He was married to Rachel Forbes in 1861 and soon after settling in Iowa, where he has since lived. To this union were born seven children, three dying in infancy and one daughter after coming to young womanhood.
Those left to mourn his loss are three daughters: Mrs. Hattie McGuffin of Webb, Iowa; Mrs. Mattie Hawkins of Derby, Iowa and Mrs. Minnie Rogers of Macksburg; one sister, Mrs. Angie Daugherty of Hot Springs, S. D., and 12 grand children and four great grand children, besides a host of friends.
He united with the M. E. church early in life and has lived a devoted Christian life. The funeral services were held in the Methodist church at Macksburg, Thursday, Dec. 13th, conducted by Rev. G. T. Andrews and burial was made in the Macksburg cemetery.
