December 12, 1917, page 1Death of FREDERICK BARKER
Tiding of the death of Frederick Barker came Monday from Mrs. May Hillis of St. Louis, to old friends in Winterset. Mr. and Mrs. Barker were wintering in Kentucky, managing mining interests of their own. Mr. Barker was thrown from a horse and instantly killed on Dec. 6th. Mrs. Hillis had been quite ill, so was unable to accompany her daughter to Racine, Wis., where Mr. Barker's body was taken for burial, Racine being the home of the older Mr. and Mrs. Barker.
His many visits at the Hillis home in Winterset, gained for Mr. Barker many friends and acquaintances, who will be saddened to know of his sudden death and will extend sympathy to Mrs. Barker, who spent her girlhood and young womanhood here.
