Pearl Brown Speer, 98, of Winterset, died Thursday, April 14, 2011, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 18, at the Patterson United Methodist Church in Patterson with Rev. Dr. Beverlee Bell officiating. Burial was in the Montpelier Cemetery in Madison County.
Pearl was born on Aug. 27, 1912, in Patterson to Walter and Agnes (Russell) Brown. In 1931 she graduated from Patterson High School and on June 4, 1939, she married Arthur J. Speer at Peru, Iowa. Pearl had been a homemaker and was a lifetime resident of Madison County. She had been a member of the Patterson United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, was a former Sunday school teacher for over 15 years, former 4-H leader, member of the Farm Bureau Women, and the Town & Country Club.
Pearl is survived by her son, Gale A. (Beverly) Speer of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Nancy L. (Dale) Tuttle of Winterset; grandchildren, James (Vicki) Tuttle, John (Diane) Tuttle, Thomas (Becky) Tuttle, Travis Speer, Stephanie (Matt Matheny) Speer and Kyle Speer; great grandchildren, Kayla, Seth, Tanner, Madison, Noah, Brianne, Maren, and Ethan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter & Agnes (Russell) Brown; husband, Arthur J. Speer; infant brother, John Brown; and sister, Mamie Brown Libby.
Memorials given to the family will be directed to the Patterson United Methodist Church.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
