A resident of Madison County most of his life, Earnest Charles Balius, 79, died Monday, June 21, 1976 at Madison Manor South in Winterset. He was born October 2, 1896 in Colony Township of Adams County, Iowa.
The son of Charles W. and Rhoda Batton Balius, Earnest was married to Sylvia Hegwood December 11, 1945 in Bethany, Missouri.
Occupied as a farmer, Mr. Balius was employed in later years by the E. L. Sargent Company.
Survivors include his wife Sylvia; one son, Eugene Balius of Albert City, five daughters, Lola Balius and Margie Green, both of Phoenix, Arizona, Carolyn Staley, Joyce Staley and Beverly Molloy, all of Winterset, 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Wayne Balius of Creston and William of Corydon, two sisters, Daisey Moffitt of Colorado and Beulah Slaybough.
Funeral services for Earnest Balius are scheduled for Thursday, June 24 at 10:30 a.m. from Collins Funeral Home, Rev. Charles Updike presiding.
Burial will be made in the Winterset Cemetery.
