Marie D. Lilie Died at Age 92

Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church near Van Meter last Tuesday, August 13 for Marie D. Lilie, wife of a former longtime pastor of that church. Mrs. Lillie died in Des Moines on August 11, at the age of 92.

Marie Dorthea Lilie was born at Zahrenholtz, Germany, on December 13, 1881, the daughter of Henry and Dorothea (Niebuhr) Fricke. She came to this country with her parents as a young girl, and was married to the Rev. Carl Lilie at Mount Olive, Illinois on June 8, 1902.

Rev. and Mrs. Lilie live at Van Meter for some 30 years, and he served as pastor of the Trinity Lutheran Church for 25 years. For the last 20 years Mrs. Lilie has lived at Des Moines where he husband preceded her in death in 1958.

Survivors include four children: Miss Clara Lilie of Des Moines, Mrs. Wayne (Alma) Erickson of Lorimor, the Rev. Marvin Lilie of Lockwood, Missouri and Mrs. Tom (Anita) Dunn of Des Moines. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Lilie was preceded in death by a son, Carl in 1973 and a daughter, Paula in 1949 and a son and daughter, Paul and Esther in early childhood.

Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church near Van Meter last Tuesday, August 13, with the Rev. R. G. Dohrmann of Des Moines officiating. Burial was made in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
