Russell E. McBurney, 79, formerly of Toddville, died Friday, Sept. 17, 1993, in Winterset Care Center, Winterset, after a long illness.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Toddville Free Methodist Church.

Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta of Des Moines; two daughters, Donna Smith of Cedar Rapids and Linda Core of Columbia, S.C.; one stepson, Elton Root of Jonesboro, Ga.; five stepdaughters, Rebecca Little and Martha Welton, both of Cedar Rapids, Grace Beitz of Marion, Amber Root-Sherman of Des Moines and Trudy Tate of Temperance, Mich.; two brothers, Melvin and Lyle, both of Toddville; and two sisters, Ila Koch of Ottumwa and Wilma Williams of Chillicothe, Mo.

Also surviving are four grandchildren and 20 step-grandchildren.

Russell was born March 5, 1914, in Palo. He married Ferne Hoag on Sept. 21, 1941, in Toddville. She died in 1980. He then married Roberta Hughes Root on Aug. 16, 1981, in Toddville.

He was co-owner and operator of McBurney Brothers Saw Mill, Toddville, for 50 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Toddville Free Methodist Church and served in the Air Force during World War II.

Memorial donations may be given to Toddville Free Methodist Church Scholarship Fund.
