The funeral for George A. Gatchel, a Beavercreek resident, will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Canby. Interment will follow in Willamette National Cemetery.
Mr. Gatchel died of a heart attack Monday in his home. He was 76.
He was born Feb. 22, 1917, in Winterset, Iowa. He attended elementary school in Weta, S.D., and high school in Zion, Iowa. Mr. Gatchel served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1941 to 1945. He was employed as a crew leader for the Southern California Gas Co. before retiring in 1979.
Mr. Gatchel married Julia Tribble in Santa Monica, Calif. He moved to Roseburg in 1979, and to the Beavercreek area in 1991. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Canby. He also was a 33rd Degree Mason, a Pearl Harbor survivor and a member of Amvets and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Gardena, Calif.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his sons, George A. of Medford, Sidney L. Tribble III of Grenada Hills, Calif., and Fredrick A. Tribble of Anaheim, Calif.; daughters, Ellen Seitz of Fairbanks, Alaska, Cleo A. Fink of Beavercreek, Cherri L. Copley of Dallas, Texas, Julia E. Ryan of Van Nuys, Calif., and Joy E. Estes of Molalla; brothers, Joseph of Houston and Lucien of Pomona, Calif.; sister, Frances Martin of Barstow, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that remembrances be contributions to the American Heart Association, 1425 N.E. Irving, No. 100, Portland, Oregon.
