DOROTHY CUNNINGHAM VANCE

Dorothy Cunningham Vance of La Grange Park, Ill., widow of Captain Walter R. Vance, died Feb. 19, 2011. She is survived by her children, Mary Anne Vance (Mark Jaffe) of Seattle, Wash., and David Vance (Wendy), Waioma’o, Hawaii; three grandchildren, Michael Jaffe of New York City, Demian Vaughs (Eva) of San Diego, Calif., and Sam Vaughs (Windy), Oahu, Hawaii; and three great-grandchildren.

Dorothy and Walter had special affection for her many nieces and nephews including Elizabeth Ryan (John Dietrich), Richard Carraher, Patricia Maley (James), and Sally Rackowski. They were blessed to have helped raise Laura Collins Corder (Michael).

Dorothy loved travel, bridge, fine dining, a good joke, the stock market and tracking the weather, and she kept up with each of these matters until her passing.

A memorial service will be held on her 93rd birthday, June 11, 2011, at 10:30 AM, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in Winterset.

Remembrances can be made in support of disadvantaged youth to the “Dorothy and Walter Vance Scholarship Fund”, St. Joseph High School, 10900 West Cermak Road, Westchester IL 60154; stjoeshs.org.

Dorothy Cunningham Vance of La Grange Park, Illinois, widow of Captain Walter R. Vance died February 19, 2011. She is survived by her children, Mary Anne Vance (Mark Jaffe) of Seattle, Wash., and David Vance (Wendy) of Waioma’o, Hawaii; three grandchildren, Michael Jaffe of New York City, Demian Vaughs (Eva) of San Diego, Calif., and Sam Vaughs (Windy) of Oahu, Hawaii; and three great-grandchildren.

Dorothy and Walter had special affection for her many nieces and nephews including Elizabeth Ryan (John Dietrich), Richard Carraher, Patricia Maley (James), Sally Rackowski, Ann Gunter (Robert), P.J. Cunningham (Shirley), John E. Cunningham, Mary Kay Conley (Jerry), Jack Baur (Judy), Mickey Ryan, and Michael Cunningham (Jean). They were blessed to have helped raise Laura Collins Corder (Michael). Dorothy treasured her long time friendship with Pat Montross and her late husband, George, as well as her sister in law and good friend, Ruth Cunningham.

Dorothy loved travel, bridge, fine dining, a good joke, the stock market and tracking the weather. She stayed active with each of these matters until her passing. Despite living in the Chicago area for more than 60 years she called Winterset "home".
