Kathryn V. Haymond, 86, of Winterset died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, March 23) at the Macksburg United Methodist Church in Macksburg with Pastor Sandy Smith officiating. Burial will be in the McDonald-Chase Cemetery at Madison County. Memorials given to the family will be directed to the Macksburg United Methodist Church.
Kathryn was born on Jan. 26, 1925, in Madison County, Iowa, to Ersie and Edna (Chase) Griffith. After graduating high school, Kathryn taught in the rural school system for several years teaching grades K-8th. She was married on April 9, 1950, at the Wesley Chapel Church in Madison County to Merle Lee Haymond, and to this union were born four children. Later in her life, she taught Community Child Care in Winterset. Kathryn had been a member of the Macksburg United Methodist Church in Macksburg, UMW, Hobby Club, Rebekka Lodge, Friendly Neighbors Garden and had been a 4-H leader. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and sewing.
Kathryn is survived by her children, David (Debra) Haymond of Winterset, Dan Haymond of Perry, Brian (Carla) Haymond of Winfield, and Becky Haymond of Waltham, Mass.; grandchildren, Mitzi (Kelly) Berkland, Elisa (David Steil) Haymond, Emily (Roger) Haymond-Hutchinson, and Brennan Haymond; and great-grandchildren; Tristyn Steil, Abygale Steil, Edwyrd Steil and Esabella Hutchinson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ersie and Edna (Chase) Griffith; husband, Merle Haymond; brothers, Robert Griffith, Paul Griffith, Frank Griffith, Wayne “Doc” Griffith; and sisters, Thelma Griffith and Mary Busch.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
