Farmer at Hanley Is Victim of Error in Taking Medicine
St. Charles---(Special)---A tragic death occurred in this community Saturday evening. G. S. Haynes, a prominent farmer living near Hanley, succumbed to the effects of a dose of poison taken by mistake.
Early Saturday morning Mr. Haynes took what he thought was an old family remedy, but which in reality was sodium of chloride, a deadly poison used in connection with poultry raising. The container of each was similar in appearance.
Almost instantly he realized he had taken the wrong medicine and immediately jumped into his car and drove to a physician in St. Charles, where he received treatment.
He was taken back to his home, and appeared to be doing very well until that evening when he died suddenly after complaining of a pain in his side.
Mr. Haynes was about 65 years of age, and was the son of the late George Haynes. He had spent most of his life near St. Charles.
He is survived by his widow, the former Miss Margaret Waddell, and adopted son and daughter, and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held from his home Tuesday and burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
