He came with his parents to Montezuma, Iowa, in the fall of 1854 and in the Spring of 1855 they came to Madison County and settled on a farm in Scott township, where he lived until 1858 when he came to Ohio township and made his home with his sister, Mrs. S. M. Creger until he was twenty-one years of age.

In the year 1867 he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Phipps and to this union were born four children. Sanford F. of Rossie, Iowa, Ed of Medford, Oregon, Mrs. Corine Hicks, of Kansas City, Mo. and Robert of Kirksville, Mo. he resided on a farm north of Truro until 1889 when he and family moved to Decatur Co., where he lived several years, later going to Creston, Ia., where he was married to Mrs. Sarah Phiney, November 25, 1901.

To them were born three children Ronald of Creston and Dorothy and Thelma at home.

After his marriage they moved to Corning, Iowa, where they lived several years. They then moved to Lamoni where they were in the Hotel business. They then moved to Osceola and about eight years ago they moved to Creston where he and his wife conducted a rooming house until in the spring when it was destroyed by fire.

His health has been declining since that time and five weeks ago he entered the Hospital where he underwent two surgical operations in an effort to regain it but all efforts proved unavailing and he passed to the great beyond.

He was a man of utmost integrity and honesty, an excellent citizen, a kind and loving father and all who knew him loved him.
