LYLE POWELL, ILLINOIS

Lyle Richard “Rich” Powell, 73, of Peotone, Ill., died Feb. 19, 2011, in Port St. Lucie, Fla., after an extended battle with lung cancer.

Rich was born at the Winterset hospital in Madison County on Dec. 13, 1937, the son of Lyle R. and Erma (Dale) Powell. He attended the rural country school in Madison County in his early years, followed by attendance at the Earlham school. He joined the Navy in 1955 and served until 1959. Rich married Kay Dakins of Zearing, Iowa, on Sept. 17, 1960 in Ames. Following their marriage, they moved to Illinois and Rich established his own business, Dick Powell Equipment Company, until he retired. Due to his illness, Rich moved to his son’s in Port St. Lucie, Fla., in January 2011.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay; his parents; one sister; a nephew; and his daughter-in-law, Debbie.

He is survived by two sons – Michael of Johannesburg, Calif., and David of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; four brothers – Larry of Atlanta, Ga., Bill and Don of Nevada, Iowa, and Ted of Huxley; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
